SIRIUS participated in the first edition of the Maresmar maritime festival
The Sirius Dog Star ship participated in the first edition of the maritime festival Maresmar-Trobada de Centenaris 2018, held at the port of Arenys de Mar and organized by the company Varador 2000.
Visitors enjoyed the presence of 22 historic ships, seven of which were over a hundred years old, including the Sirius, the schooner Santa Eulàlia—the flagship of the Maritime Museum of Barcelona—Llaüt Sant Ramon, A-72 Arosa, and the Jakt Far Barcelona, among many others.
The public also enjoyed various live cultural activities (exhibitions, talks, conferences, book presentations), daytime and nighttime musical performances, gastronomic activities, theatrical shows on the dock, maritime performances, parades, a spectacular naval battle reenactment, water and sports shows, craft workshops, rowing boat activities, and a poster contest for the next edition.
According to Xiqui Mas, CEO of Varador 2000, “In general terms, we met the main objectives we set when we decided to launch this maritime event. We are pleased with how everything worked, and we believe we have laid the foundation to project the festival into the future: we saw all the visitors enjoying the activities we programmed, and we believe Maresmar can become an important high-quality, family-friendly tourist attraction.”
In the days leading up to the Maresmar celebration, the Mataró Marina Barcelona nautical base hosted part of the fleet of historic and centenary ships that later participated in the First Crossing to the Costa del Maresme between Mataró and Arenys de Mar. During their stay in the capital of Maresme, they also welcomed a thousand visitors, who enjoyed the spectacular historic ships like the Sirius, while the youngest visitors enjoyed activities aboard the pirate ship.
